Mount Karczówka (340 m above sea level) is the highest hill of the Kadzielnia Range and an excellent viewpoint with a panorama of the northern part of Kielce and the hills surrounding the city. It is an ideal place for a relaxing walk spiced with a large dose of knowledge about the history of lead and silver ore mining associated with this mountain. The “Mountain of power and ores,” as Karczówka is often called, is located in the western part of the city, at the end of Karczówkowska Street and is protected as the “Karczówka” landscape reserve. The great value of this place is the 17th century monastery and the St. Charles Borromeo church, in the chapel of which you can admire the famous statue of the patron saint of miners, St. Barbara, made of a single lump of lead ore (galena). This sculpture refers to the story of the 17th century miner Hilary Mala and the finding of the said lump. The search for lead and silver on Karczówka is connected with numerous traces made accessible via the geological, ore and mining trail running from Karczówka to the nearby hills of Dalnia and Grabina. From Karczówka, there also runs the red trail to Chęciny, and nearby there are also bicycle trails and a car trail – the Holy Cross Mountains Archeo-Geological Trail.
