Jaworznia is a former Devonian limestone quarry, within which the longest (apart from the Tatra Mountains) cave system in Poland was formed: Chelosiowa Jama – Jaworznicka, measuring approximately 3.8 kilometres in length.
The part of the quarry with the cave is protected as the “Chelosiowa Jama” nature reserve.
In the walls of the former quarry, a valuable profile of the boundary between Devonian limestone and sandstone and siltstone sediments of the Lower Triassic is exposed.
