Botanical Garden in Kielce

The history of the garden dates back to 1966, when a citizen of Kielce working at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Prof. Dr. hab. Zygmunt Czubiński, sent a letter proposing the creation of a Botanical Garden in Kielce to the then city authorities. This idea came to fruition only a few decades later thanks to the great determination and commitment of professor Stanisław Cieśliński from the Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce and the Mayor of Kielce, Wojciech Lubawski.

The Botanical Garden in Kielce is located within the administrative borders of the city of Kielce, on the south-eastern slopes of the Karczówka Mountain (339 m above sea level), at the junction of Karczówkowska and Jagiellońska Streets. Karczówkowska Street divides the garden into two unequal parts, the larger one on the southern side – 12 ha (exposition) and the smaller one, 3 ha, on the northern side. The northern side has been divided into parts A and B. The former will maintain its current character, i.e. that of an open park, while part B is to have cubature buildings with a palm house. The main part of the Garden is the exposition part (C). The first site works involved the fencing, the construction of a circular road and a network of footpaths. In parallel with the construction work, the planting work initiated in 2010 continues. The Botanical Garden is obtaining more and more collections and is becoming more and more beautiful, which gives us reasons for satisfaction and creatively motivates us to intensify our efforts on the next stages of construction.
